How to apply for U.S. Citizenship?

If you are ready to apply for U.S. Citizenship because you have been a Permanent Resident for at least five (5) years, or you have been a Permanent Resident for at least three (3) years and your application is based on a marriage to a U.S. Citizen, or you are applying based on your service in the U.S. Armed Forces; our free Citizenship Service Eligibility Questionnaire can help you determine right away if you are eligible to become a U.S. Citizen and when is the best time to submit your Form N-400 (Application for Naturalization).

Once you have completed the Citizenship Preparation Service Eligibility Questionnaire, you will be able to download a detailed Citizenship Evidence Checklist for your reference.

Citizenship through naturalization is the process by which a Permanent Resident applies to become a Naturalized Citizen of the United States, allowing them to enjoy all of the protections and benefits that come with U.S. Citizenship; such as the right to vote, sponsor family members that cannot sponsor by a Permanent Resident, apply for a U.S. Passport, and much more.

You may file your Application for Naturalization up to 90 days before the required period of continuous residence as a Lawful Permanent Resident. If you also want to legally change your name, you can make that request on your Application for Naturalization and if your request is granted, your new name will appear on your Certificate of Naturalization.
